Love Rooted: The Definitive Guide to Valentine's Houseplants That Outlast Chocolates
SHOW ME THE PLANTSThis year it's estimated that in the UK, collectively we will spend £1.3 billion on Valentine's gestures. A quiet green revolution is sprouting in living rooms from Penzance to Perthshire. Gone are the days of watching £25 bouquets wither faster than a Tinder match's enthusiasm. Enter houseplants - the millennial answer to "I love you" that keeps growing long after 14th February. At Houseplant UK, we've tracked a 300% year-on-year rise in Valentine's plant sales - let's dig into why foliage is the new floriography.
The Carbon Footprint of Love
Cut Flowers | Houseplants | |

CO2 Emissions (per £ spent) | 3.2kg | 0.7kg |
Average Lifespan | 5-7 days | 3-5 years |
UK Waste Generated | 9,000 tonnes | 280 tonnes |
Our horticulturalists calculate that switching just 10% of Valentine's bouquets to plants could save enough carbon to power 12,000 London homes for a day. Now that's what we call green love.
