Houseplant Size Guide

Plant height measurement: How we measure the height of our houseplants from pot to top

At Houseplant.co.uk, we want to ensure that you choose the perfect plant for your space. Here's how we measure our plants:

Plant Height:

Measured from the base of the nursery pot to the top of the plant, including the full length of the stem and foliage.

Pot Size:

Refers to the total width across the top of the pot.

Choosing the Right Size

To find the perfect fit, compare the diameter of your plant's grow pot to the opening diameter of your chosen decorative pot. Ensure the decorative pot is at least 1-3cm larger in diameter than the grow pot for easy insertion and removal.

Important Notes

  • Plant sizes are approximate and include the depth of the plant pot and roots, not just the height from the top of the soil.
  • If a specific plant size is not available, we may provide a larger plant at no additional cost to you.

An evenly moist, but not soggy soil is best for your Parlour Palm. Water less so in Winter. Parlour palms do tolerate a dry air, but significantly dry air will cause the tips to brown.

Learn More About Parlour Palm

Collapsible content

What is the Parlour Palm Known For?

The Parlour Palm is renowned for its elegant, feathery fronds and its adaptability to low-light conditions. Due to its compact size and resilience, it's one of the most popular palms for indoor gardening and is often used to add a tropical touch to living spaces.

What Is the History of the Parlour Palm?

Parlour Palms have a rich history dating back to the Victorian era, when it gained popularity as a staple in parlours (hence the name). The Victorians adored this plant for its ability to thrive in the less-than-ideal light conditions provided by gas lamps, and it soon became synonymous with sophistication and elegance.

Where Does the Parlour Palm Originate?

The Parlour Palm is native to the rainforests of Southern Mexico and Guatemala. It thrives in the understory of the forest, which is why it can tolerate lower light conditions, making it well-suited for indoor living spaces.

How Do You Care for a Parlour Palm?

Parlour Palms are relatively easy to care for. They thrive in low to moderate light and prefer well-draining soil that is kept evenly moist but not waterlogged. A balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied every 6-8 weeks during the growing season to keep the palm lush and healthy.

Are Parlour Palm Toxic to Pets?

Parlour Palms are considered pet-friendly and are non-toxic to both cats and dogs. This makes them a great choice for households with furry friends. However, as always, it's advisable to keep plants out of reach of pets to prevent accidental nibbling.
